The International Trumpet Research Journal (ITRJ) is pleased to announce the call for submissions for Volume 3, Issue 1, scheduled for publication on November 30, 2026. Following the continued development of the journal and the publication of its previous issues, the ITRJ remains committed to offering a peer-reviewed, open-access platform dedicated to advancing scholarly, artistic, and professional discourse surrounding the trumpet.

Journal Scope and Objectives

The ITRJ welcomes rigorous, original, and innovative research related to all areas of trumpet studies, including:

  • Trumpet performance practices
  • Music pedagogy and educational methodologies
  • Historical and organological research on the trumpet
  • Performer health, wellness, and injury prevention
  • Technological developments and their application to trumpet playing
  • Artistic research and performance-based research
  • Case studies, professional reflections, and practice-led inquiry
  • Repertoire studies, interpretation, and analysis
  • Trumpet composition, improvisation, and contemporary creation

As part of its broader commitment to inclusive and innovative scholarship, the ITRJ encourages both traditional academic articles and performance-based research submissions, including documented performances, interpretive projects, audiovisual materials, creative processes, and reflective studies related to trumpet performance, pedagogy, composition, and research.

Notification of acceptance: October 10, 2026
Publication date: November 30, 2026

All manuscripts must be submitted through the journal platform:

Authors are required to register on the platform and follow the detailed submission instructions provided therein.

Manuscript Requirements

Submissions must meet the following requirements:

  • Manuscripts must be original and unpublished.
  • Maximum word count: 8,000 words, including references and appendices.
  • Manuscripts must conform to APA format, 7th edition.
  • An abstract of no more than 250 words must be included.
  • A brief author biography of no more than 150 words must be submitted.
  • Submissions may be written in English. Contributions in other languages may be considered when accompanied by an English title, abstract, and keywords, according to the editorial criteria of the journal.
Performance Research Submissions

The ITRJ especially encourages submissions grounded in performance research, artistic research, and practice-based methodologies. These may include:

  • Recordings
  • Concert documentation
  • Interpretive projects
  • Creative research processes
  • Audiovisual essays
  • Pedagogical or professional case studies
  • New compositions or performance-based projects involving the trumpet

These submissions must be accompanied by a written text that contextualizes the work, explains its research framework, and outlines its scholarly or artistic contribution.

Authors submitting audiovisual or practice-based materials must provide access to the content through a stable URL, institutional repository, or permanent digital archive.

This initiative aims to:

  • Enrich trumpet research through multi-modal and practice-based approaches.
  • Serve as an educational resource for trumpet students, teachers, performers, and researchers.
